Biggest city police station in PH inaugurated in Cebu

CEBU CITY – The country’s biggest city police station located in Barangay Poblacion, Danao City, was inaugurated Friday.

Police Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police, led the inauguration of the four-story police station.

Danao Mayor Ramon "Nito" Durano III, Cebu Vice Gov. Hilario Davide III, Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) director Police Col. Engelbert Soriano, and Danao police chief Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay also graced the turnover and inauguration of the building.

The new building was constructed after the old police station in the city was razed by fire in January 2015.

The PNP initially planned to build a two-story police office but Durano offered to build a four-story building with the city government shouldering the cost of the construction.

The Cebu provincial government, headed by then Gov. Hilario Davide III, also helped shoulder the cost of construction.

A budget of P80 million was shelled out for the construction of the building which sits on a 1,800-square meter lot.

“This will help inspire other areas who plan to build a police station to follow this standard. This police station is really incomparable. This will give the police a high moral to do their work because they have a great police station,” said Sinas.

Sinas said a crime laboratory and an office of the Scene of the Crime Operatives will be put up in the station.

The local government of Danao will shoulder the station’s electric, water, and Internet bills as its way of showing the anti-criminality campaign of the police, said Durano.
