Muntinlupa City government helps 200 families affected by fire in Cupang

The Muntinlupa City government has extended help to about 200 families, or 1,000 individuals, whose houses were razed by a fire in Brgy. Cupang Tuesday night.

According to the Muntinlupa City Fire Station, the fire hit a residential area in the Aquino Damaso Compound, Purok 2, PNR Site, Brgy. Cupang at 11:36 p.m.

The fire lasted for four hours before it was put out at 4:02 a.m., damaging P1.4 million worth of properties.

An initial report by the fire department indicated that 65 families, or 253 individuals, were affected by the fire. The number rose to 200 families after the Muntinlupa Social Service Department (SSD) conducted mapping of the area after the incident to identify the actual number of affected persons.

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi visited the site of the fire on Wednesday and talked to the families. He vowed to help them through the city’s social programs.

SSD chief Analyn Mercado said the local government has provided hot meals and family kits to affected families who are temporarily taking shelter at the Mullet Compound covered court.

The City Health Office and Department of Disaster Resilience and Management are monitoring the evacuation center to prevent the transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The fire victims will receive financial assistance through a resolution that will be passed by the City Council.

Last Feb. 27, a fire hit a residential area in Garcip Compound, Cupang that left 200 individuals homeless.
