Batangas City eyed as possible training venue for PBA teams

The PBA is looking at the possibility of having Batangas City as a practice venue for all teams while NCR Plus remains under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial is slated to visit his hometown along with San Miguel Corporation sports director Alfrancis Chua on Saturday for talks with local officials about the possible arrangement.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, which Chua represents as team governor, suggested the idea given that Batangas is not only accessible but also under General Community Quarantine.

GCQ guidelines allow PBA teams to hold practices under the condition that players will be divided into groups to assure that health and safety protocols are observed.

“Maganda lang yung suggestion na malapit at uwian tapos GCQ pa yun kaya makikipagusap kami sa Sabado sa mga officials dun,” said Marcial.

MECQ areas only allow individual activities, which is why teams continue to hold online workouts while waiting for restrictions to be relaxed.

The PBA is looking at the possibility of having Batangas City as a practice venue for teams while NCR Plus remains under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine.

Five-on-five scrimmages are only permitted in Modified GCQ areas, which is why the PBA is allowing teams the option to hold training bubbles provided they secure the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force, Joint Administrative Order and the Local Government Unit.
