A fire hit a residential area in Cupang, Muntinlupa before midnight Tuesday, razing about 50 houses.
According to Muntinlupa City Fire Station chief Roberto Samillano, the fire started at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday at the Aquino Damaso Compound in Purok 2, PNR Site, Cupang.
Authorities said the fire damaged 50 houses, and affected 65 families or about 253 individuals. No one was injured. The cost of damage to property was estimated at P1.4 million.The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire.
The first alarm was raised at 11:36 p.m. followed by a second alarm at midnight. It was declared under control at 1:05 a.m. and was put out at 4:20 a.m.
A total of 79 fire trucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection, local government, and volunteers responded to the incident.
Muntinlupa Public Information Office chief Tez Navarro said the city government will provide hot meals and other assistance to the affected families.
