The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has converted 52 container vans into additional quarantine facilities for the city of San Juan as part of the city response to the surge in COVID-19 cases.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora inspected on Wednesday the converted container vans located at the Pinaglabanan Shrine.
Each unit is fully equipped with a bed, air conditioning unit, and comfort room with shower. The units were designed to ensure that both the occupant and the people outside the container van are safe from the virus.
Zamora had previously said that the city is building more quarantine facilities to house its symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. He said that 26 more container vans were converted and placed throughout the city.
He added that the San Juan Elementary School is also being converted into a quarantine facility that can accommodate 22 to 28 patients.
As of April 27, the city has recorded 605 active COVID-19 cases, 7,189 recoveries, and 179 deaths.
