Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Monday expressed elation over the news that former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada was released from the hospital after his bout with coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“Our prayers were answered,” Locsin said in a tweet.
The former President thanked all those who wished him well and prayed for his speedy recovery in a 27-second video clip posted on social media by his son, former Senator Jinggoy Estrada.
Locsin said the discharge of the 84-year-old former President from the hospital is a “very welcome development”. Locsin served as speechwriter to Estrada when the latter won the presidency in 1998.
Estrada was hospitalized on March 28, 2021, after testing positive for COVID-19.
He was initially moved out of the ICU on April 14 but has to be brought back on April 16 due to a bacterial lung infection.
Estrada served as Manila mayor from 2013 to 2016.
