Two more personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) died of health complications after being infected by the coronavirus.
Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, PNP deputy chief for Administration and commander of the PNP Administrative Support for COVID-19 Task Force (ASCOTF), said the two new fatalities were reported along with 107 new cases of infection in the PNP as of Sunday, April 25. He said a total of 55 PNP personnel died of COVID-19 since last year.
The 54th fatality, he said, was a 46 Police Non-Commissioned Officer assigned to the National Capital Region who died on April 24.
On Sunday, a 39-year old female civilian employee of the PNP Directorate for Police Records and Management also died of COVID-19.
The death of two PNP personnel came after two police officials also late last week.
The PNP has been at the frontline of implementation of community quarantine. Since last year, a total of 19,639 PNP personnel have been infected. As of April 25, there are 1,930 active cases in the PNP.
