QC councilor seeks to recognize Maginhawa community pantry pioneer

A Quezon City councilor has filed a resolution recognizing and commending Ana Patricia Non, the proponent of the Maginhawa community pantry, "for her exemplary efforts" to help people affected by the pandemic.

The resolution proposed by 2nd District Councilor Winnie Castelo also aims to recognize "that Non's initiative also inspired the establishment of more community pantries across different barangays and cities nationwide."

"Keeping in mind how others could not afford to stay home since their daily food depends on their livelihood, Ms. Non decided to put up the community pantry to help her neighborhood during this difficult time," Castelo said in her proposed resolution.

The councilor also believed that through Non's initiative, "people are reminded to observe the minimum health protocols and follow a simple reminder: 'Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha ayon sa pangangailangan (Give what you can, get what you need).'"

Her project also led to the emergence of other community pantries around the country, she added.

"The establishment of community pantries highlights the generosity of every Filipino and shows that the true spirit of Bayanihan (solidarity) is alive in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis," Castelo's resolution read.
