Mikey Williams inks two-year deal with TNT

Mikey Williams, the highly-touted 6-foot-2 guard who carries impressive credentials, finally ended weeks of negotiations with the TNT Tropang Giga by agreeing on a two-year deal.

Team manager Gabby Cui confirmed Monday, April 26, the signing of Williams, who the Tropang Giga selected as the fourth overall pick in last month’s PBA Rookie Draft.

The team’s Twitter account later posted a photo of Williams holding his contract while in Los Angeles. He is expected to fly over to Manila once practices can resume.

Terms were not disclosed but Williams can get as high as P200,000 a month on his first year and P250,000 in the second aside from perks and bonuses.

TNT picked Williams after acquiring the rights to pick fourth from NLEX in a three-team trade which also involved Blackwater.

He is being groomed to fill the void left by Ray Parks Jr., whose decision to skip the upcoming season amid contract talks drew the ire of TNT management.

Williams played in the NBA D-League with the Canton Charge and was a key player during stints with the Saigon Heat of the ASEAN Basketball League, Mighty Sports Philippines in the Dubai Invitational and the Gensan Warriors of the MPBL.

With Williams officially in the fold, TNT is hoping to live up to lofty expectations as one of the title contenders going into the Philippine Cup.

Coach Chot Reyes is making a return to the TNT sidelines with a vaunted lineup led by veteran Jayson Castro, RR Pogoy, Poy Erram and Troy Rosario.

TNT also acquired Glenn Khobuntin, Chris Javier and Ping Exciminiano from the free agent pool while making amends with Kelly Williams, who previously announced his retirement.
