Actor Daniel Padilla puts up community pantry in Tacloban
TACLOBAN CITY – Actor Daniel Padilla, who will celebrate his 26th birth anniversary Monday, April 26, is setting up a community pantry together with his mom actress and TV host Carla Estrada.

Sangkay Community Pantry was organized in Pope Francis Village, one of the typhoon “Yolanda” (international name “Haiyan”) housing projects in this city. “Sangkay,” which means friends in Waray, was organized with the help of Carla's friends.

Rowena Laceras-Young, one of Carla's friends and a volunteer in the community pantry, said they initially prepared goods for 500 beneficiaries.
"As we all know, Carla really loves Tacloban and it is always on top of their list whenever they can to help," she said.
She added that it is also their way of celebrating Daniel's birth anniversary amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "At least in a small and simple way, they can help their fellow Taclobanons through this bayanihan (civic unity)."
Young expressed optimism that they would be able to sustain the initiative and replicate it in other areas.
Carla and Daniel were one of the first celebrities who extended help when Yolanda ravaged Eastern Visayas in 2013 as well as during the implementation of community quarantine last year.
