DSWD assures 'enough' relief aid to 'Bising'-affected families

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assured Thursday, April 22, the public that it has “enough" relief supplies to assist the tens of thousands of families affected by Typhoon “Bising”.

The DSWD expressed its readiness to augment the resources of the local government units (LGUs) in areas affected by Bising.

"Disaster teams of DSWD Field Offices in regions hit by Typhoon Bising continue to be on alert status and are closely coordinating with concerned LGUs to determine how the affected families can be better assisted,” it said in a statement.

The agency said its Field Office V (Bicol) maintained stockpiles and standby funds amounting to more than P36.6 million.

"Of which, over P15.8 million worth of non-food items and 27,720 family food packs worth P11.1 million are ready for distribution,” it said

The agency also reported that its Field Office VIII (Eastern Visayas) has stockpiles and standby funds amounting to P44 million "that can be used for disaster operations.”

Based on the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) report, as of April 21, 6 p.m., 4,511 families or 18,603 persons are currently taking temporary shelter in 252 evacuation centers in Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Eastern Visayas and Caraga.
