Cop dismissed from service for illegal drug use

ILOILO CITY – For using illegal drugs, a policeman has been dismissed from the uniform service in Western Visayas region.

No less than Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, director of Police Regional Office (PRO-6), signed the dismissal order of Police Corporal Joseph Vergara for conduct unbecoming a police officer.

Vergara, who was previously assigned at the police staion of Candoni town, Negros Occidental province tested positive for illegal drugs during a random test last December 2020 as part of PRO-6’s internal cleansing program.

Vergara also faced grave misconduct case for Absence Without Official Leave (AWOL) for more than 30 day when he did not report for duty after the results of his drug test last December 2020 was released.

Vergara is one of the four cops who were ordered dismissed during the first quarter of 2021.  The three others were for grave misconduct for also AWOL violations.

Meanwhile, PRO-6 was also able to resolve 18 administrative cases.

Miranda said these are part of the 22 administrative cases handled by PRO-6’s Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) and Regional Internal Affairs Service 6 (RIAS).
