TACLOBAN CITY - A 75-year-old man was killed while a fisherman is still missing after Typhoon 'Bising' battered Eastern Visayas Monday, April 19.
The casualty was identified as
Alberto Wales, 79, from Brgy. San Isidro, St. Bernard, Southern Leyte.
Office of the Civil Defense Regional Director Lord Byron Torrecarion, said the victim died dur to severe head injury caused by a felled coconut tree.
He was declared dead at Anahawan District Hospital.
A fisherman identified as Louie Din, 40, from Brgy. Dao, San Jose, Northern Samar is still missing after he sailed to get supplies on the nearby island on April 16 with three other companions.
Two persons from Baybay City were also rescued from drowning Sunday afternoon.
Work and classes have been suspended by some local government units due to the prevailing effects of the typhoon.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Northern Samar province, through its Chairperson Governor Edwin Ongchuan, recommended a localized order of suspension of work.
As of PAG-ASA's 5 a.m. Severe Weather Bulletin, Northern Samar remains under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 with a red warning level for heavy rainfall.
As of 7:30 a.m., 15 of the 24 towns have declared work suspension namely: Catarman, Laoang, Palapag, Allen, Mondragon, Bobon, Lapinig, San Jose, Biri, San Roque, Lavezares, Rosario, Silvino Lubos, San Antonio, and Lope De Vega.
The provincial government of Samar and Eastern Samar have also suspended their work and classes.
Tacloban City and Leyte, Leyte; and Naval, Biliran have likewise declared suspension of work and classes.
Parts of Southern Leyte, Leyte, and the whole island of Samar are still experiencing power interruptions.
At least 24 villages in Eastern Samar and 42 in Northern Samar are flooded.
Arteche, Eastern Samar Mayor Roland Boie Evardone said Arteche-Jipapad road is impassable due to heavy flooding that reached up to 4 meters.
Biliran - Naval Road; Wright - Taft - Borongan Road; and Taft - Oras - San Policarpo - Arteche Road are also impassable.
A total of 1,196 passengers, 521 rolling cargoes, and 17 vessels were stranded in all ports in the region, while some 1,432 families or 5,415 individuals have evacuated.
Meanwhile, all incoming and outgoing flights to and from Tacloban DZR Airport have now resumed by 9 A.M. according to CAAP.
