DepEd says vaccination of at least 791K personnel may take place by June 2021

Education Secretary Leonor Briones said that the Department of Education (DepEd) is gearing up for the possible vaccination of around 791,000 teachers and other personnel of the agency by June 2021.

Briones, during the briefing of Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Monday, April 19, commended the President Duterte and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) for approving DepEd’s appeal to include basic education frontliners in the A4 priority category of the National Deployment and Vaccination Plan.

“Kami ay tuwang-tuwa at ang President ay inaprubahan ito (We are thrilled and the President has approved it),” Briones said.

Briones said that the original estimate on the numbers of teachers and personnel to be vaccinated is 1.2 million.

However, when the local government units (LGUs) started rolling out their respective vaccination activities, she noted that the final numbers of those who will be inoculated will probably be lower.

Briones said that teachers with co-morbidities, especially those ages between 60 to 80, should have been inoculated already based on the vaccination rollout program of the government.

“So mas bumaba ang number, up 791,000 na (The number is lower, up to 791,000),” Briones said. “Siguro mga June ito mag-umpisa kasi by that time mag-start na ang enrollment (Siguro mga June ito mag-umpisa kasi by that time mag-start na ang enrollment (Maybe it will start in June because by that time the enrollment will start),” she added.

Briones explained that teachers and other personnel do not need to register for the vaccination program. “We already have a list,” she said in Filipino.
