Baguio City now accepting tourists from GCQ, MGCQ areas
Baguio City, considered as the 'summer' capital of the Philippines, has reopened its doors for local tourists from areas under a less restrictive community quarantine status only.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said they approved the request of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong to accept again tourists even while under a general community quarantine (GCQ) classification.
"Pinayagan namin magbukas ang Baguio pero they can only accept yung hindi galing NCR-plus (We allowed Baguio City to open for tourists but they can only accept those who are not from the NCR-plus)," Puyat said on Saturday, April 17.
The tourism chief explained that only domestic tourists coming from general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ areas will be allowed to enter Baguio City.
Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal–collectively known as NCR-plus–are currently under modified enhanced community quarantine until April 30. The government previously placed these areas under strict ECQ between March 29 and April 11.
According to Puyat, Magalong pushed for the opening of Baguio for tourists in an effort to revive the city's tourism industry and help workers and stakeholders in the sector that have been affected by the ongoing pandemic.
Magalong also assured that strict health guidelines are still being enforced in the City of Pines as they aim to strike a balance between reviving the economy and ensuring the safety of tourism workers, as well as residents in the community.
"Normally, pwede lang mag-open ang mga hotel kapag MGCQ. Ang Baguio ay naka-GCQ pero si Mayor Magalong naman, in place ang kaniyang mga health and safety protocols so pinayagan ng DOT na mag-accept ulit ng tourists ang Baguio (Normally, hotels can only open during MGCQ. Baguio is under GCQ but health and safety protocols are in place in the City so the DOT allowed them to accept tourists again)," she explained.
In an advisory posted by the City Tourism Office, travelers are still required to sign up at visita.baguio.gov.ph and complete the documentary requirements. A QR-coded Tourist Pass will be issued which needs to present upon entering Baguio.
Tourists were also reminded to strictly comply with minimum public health standards and local ordinances during their stay in the city.
