12-hour power blackout in Guimaras, 2 Iloilo towns set

ILOILO CITY – Residents of Guimaras and two towns in Iloilo are bracing for a 12-hour power blackout as the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) is set to conduct maintenance work on a 69-kilovolt distribution line from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

“We are hoping for understanding of those who will be affected,” said Michelle Visera, NGCP Western Visayas regional corporate communications officer.

Affected areas include the whole of Guimaras, which consists of the towns of Buenavista, Jordan, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo, and Sibunag.

In a separate announcement, power distributor Guimaras Electric Cooperative (GUIMELCO) said NGCP will also conduct transmission line correction and clearing of insulators at the Buenavista substation.

Iloilo Electric Cooperative (ILECO I) separately announced that affected areas include the whole town of Leganes and portions of Sta. Barbara.

Visera said that the April 17 maintenance is different from the one conducted last April 11 which also resulted to a 12-hour blackout in Iloilo City and neighboring towns.

“This is for a distribution line. Last time was for the transformer,” Visera said.

Also affected by the NGCP maintenance for the weekend are areas in La Paz district of Iloilo City.

Power distributor MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) announced there is a power interruption Saturday in portions of Barangay Baldoza, Ingore, and Ticud from 6:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Portions of Barangay Hinactacan won’t have power from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
