South Korea's number 2 and number 4 most wanted for online fraud cases arrested in PH

Two South Koreans who are wanted in their home country for involvement in online fraud were arrested in a raid in Parañaque City on Tuesday.

Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the two South Koreans are included in the International Police's Red Notice.

He said 39-year old Yu Daewoong is ranked number 2 in the most wanted list in South Korea for cases involving online fraud while 36-year old Kang Wesung is ranked number 4.

It is not immediately clear how long they have been staying in the Philippines but police are now conducting investigation if they were operating in the Philippines before their arrest.

“The arrest of these international fugitives is part of the commitment of the Philippine government as a member of the Internal Criminal Police Organization (ICPO-INTERPOL) to assist member states in the arresting wanted fugitives,” said Sinas.

Yu was arrested on 11:15 a.m. at No. 100 Hawaii St., Paranaque City while Kang was arrested at 12:15 p.m. in Miami Tower, Penthouse 20, Azure, Parañaque City.

He said the operation was based on the information from the South Korean Police Attache.

Both Yu and Kang are facing criminal cases in South Korea for Act on the Aggravated Punishment, of Specific Economic Crimes Article 3(1)-2, Criminal Act Article 347(1).

They are now under the custody of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
