Comelec suspends voter registration in MECQ areas

There will be no voter registration in the National Capital Region (NCR), Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Abra, Quirino, and Santiago City in Isabela until April 30.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Monday, April 12,  the suspension of voter registration in the areas placed under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

In an advisory, the Comelec said the issuance of voter certification will also be suspended in the MECQ areas.

For the rest of the country or those under the general community quarantine (GCQ) or modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), the poll body said, voter registration will continue.

Voter registration activities in the GCQ and MGCQ areas will run from Mondays to Thursdays, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Comelec also suspended the voter registration when the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) was imposed in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, and Cavite.

Meanwhile, the Comelec - Office for Overseas Voting (OFOV) said operations of the local field registration centers for overseas voters will continue to be suspended this month.

"Overseas voter registration activities at our local field registration center remain suspended from 12 - 30 April 2021," said Comelec-OFOV in a  separate advisory.

It added that OFOV will be attending to applicants with urgent travel needs only for the duration of the MECQ period.
