PH now has over 160,000 active COVID-19 cases


The number of active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country has breached the 160,000-mark after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 9,216 additional new infections on Thursday, April 8.

The number of new cases has raised the nationwide tally of active cases to 167,279, while the total number of confirmed cases in the country now sits at 828,366.

Meanwhile, the DOH said 598 more patients have recovered from the infectious disease, increasing the total number of recoveries to 646,968.

On the other hand, 60 new deaths related to COVID-19 were reported on Thursday, which made the country’s death count to 14,119.

The Health department said 14 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, six are recoveries.

“Moreover, 28 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it added.

The DOH said five testing laboratories were not able to submit their data on time to the COVID-19 Document Repository System on April 7.
