Ex-House Speaker Alvarez tests positive for COVID-19

Former House speaker and incumbent Davao del Norte 1st District Representative Pantaleon Alvarez has also contracted the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

His daughter, Department of Finance Assistant Secretary Paola Alvarez on Thursday disclosed to members of the media that the former leader of the House of Representatives recently tested positive for COVID-19.

She clarified, however, that her father "is not in any serious health condition."

Alvarez is currently recovering in his home in Davao del Norte province, she added.

Several members of the lower chamber had contracted the COVID-19. At least two solons reportedly succumbed to the disease last year.

Just last Monday, April 5, Ang Probinsyano Party-list Rep. Alfred delos Santos announced that he tested positive for the coronavirus.
