Belmonte recovers from COVID-19

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Thursday said she has already recovered from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

"Ako po ay irerelease na today. Discharge date ko na po itong hapon na 'to (I will be released from isolation today. I'm scheduled to be discharged this afternoon)," Belmonte said in a Laging Handa press briefing.

The QC mayor, who tested positive COVID-19 for the second time on March 29, said she was declared recovered by her doctors on her 12th day of isolation.

Belmonte said she had COVID symptoms this time, unlike when she first contracted the disease on July 8, 2020, when she was asymptomatic.

"Sandali lang naman ang symptoms at pagkaraan ng ilang araw ay okay naman na ako (I only had symptoms for a while. After several days, I was already feeling well)," she said.

"Noong una kong sakit wala akong sintomas kung kaya hindi rin ako nakapagdevelop ng antibodies, which is the reason I think kung bakit ako nagkasakit ulit (When I first tested positive, I had no symptoms. This was the reason why I think, I didn't develop antibodies and got infected again)," she added.

As Metro mayors are already allowed to get the COVID-19 vaccine, Belmonte also said she is willing to be vaccinated once given clearance by her doctors.

"Siguro po sa lalong madaling panahon kung tayo'y bigyan ng clearance ng ating doctor. Alam ko, merong palugit na araw bago ka pwedeng magpabakuna pagkatapos mo gumaling sa COVID pero papakinggan ko nalang po ang payo ng aking mga doctor (As soon as possible, if my doctors give me clearance. If I'm not mistaken, there should be a time period before a recovered COVID-19 patient can be vaccinated. I will just listen to my doctors)," she said.
