Two New York doormen who closed the doors to their building's entrance while a Filipino-American woman was being brutally attacked outside have been fired.

On March 29, a security camera video showed the doormen closing the door to a Manhattan apartment building without taking action after 65-year-old Vilma Kari was being repeatedly kicked and stomped on the street.

The Brodsky Organization, the building's management company, initially suspended the doormen pending an investigation. Both the doorman and concierge, whose names were withheld, have been fired after an internal investigation.

Rick Mason, the executive director of management at the Brodsky Organization, said that the two doormen at the time had not followed “required emergency and safety protocols.”

"The full lobby video shows that once the assailant had departed, the doormen emerged to assist the victim and flag down an NYPD vehicle. It is clear that required emergency and safety protocols were not followed," the company said Tuesday in an email obtained by CNN.

“For this reason, their employment has been terminated effective immediately,” the email said.

"We are extremely distraught and shocked by this incident, and our hearts go out to the victim," it added.

The Brodsky Organization also said it will give its building staff training on emergency response protocols and “anti-bias awareness and upstander-bystander interventions."

Brandon Elliot, 38, the attacker, was arrested Wednesday, March 31. He was charged with two counts of second degree assault as a hate crime and one count of first degree attempted assault as a hate crime.
