Andanar warns about 'fake news' on Duterte's health

Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar has denied reports that President Duterte allegedly suffered a mild stroke, branding them as fake news.

“Huwag magpapaniwala sa FAKE NEWS (Do not believe in FAKE NEWS),” Andanar said in a Facebook post Wednesday, April 7.

Andanar shared a screenshot of a news report stating the President’s alleged ailment with the “fake news” label.

The report came after the President canceled his scheduled public address Wednesday. The President’s event was postponed to next week after several Presidential Security Group members became infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

PSG commander Brig. Gen. Jesus Durante III has assured the nation that the President remained “safe” and “in good health,” saying the infected security personnel had no close contact with him.

“Our PSG personnel who got infected are not directly or closely detailed with the President and are all asymptomatic without experiencing any adverse symptom. Hence, rest assured that the President is safe and in good health,” Durante said in a statement Wednesday.  
He said the affected PSG personnel will complete quarantine protocols. Health and safety protocols are likewise strictly enforced and implemented to all PSG personnel and their dependents.

“Despite the challenges posed by the virus, PSG continues to perform its mandate. As earlier mentioned, we have established protocols to contain the spread of the virus and we will continue to enforce it so that the President is kept safe and secured from all forms of threats at all times,” he said.
