The Philippine-National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) Iloilo identified the suspect as Park Kyounhjyoun.

Police Major Jess Baylon, CIDG Iloilo chief, said the 52-year-old South Korean did not resist when he was arrested in Barangay West Timawa, Molo District.

Park allegedly fled South Korea after he was charged for embezzlement. He allegedly was able to fool more than 30 people to invest in a non-existing gold mining venture and used the money he collected from them  to finance his gambling addiction.

According to Baylon, Park has been staying in Iloilo City for almost three years prior to his arrest. “But before he came to Iloilo City, he also went to Macau, Hong Kong, Manila, and Cebu,” Baylon said.

Park will be extradited back to South Korea. Baylon said  that the South Korea Consulate in Cebu has coordinated with CIDG-Iloilo for the suspect’s extradition.
