Manila LGU gets P1-B fund for one-time cash aid

The Manila City government has received the financial assistance from the national government amounting to over P1 billion on Monday (April 5).

A total of P1,523,270,000 was received by the Manila City Treasurer's Office which will be distributed to the beneficiaries of the Social Amelioration Program under the Bayanihan Act 1 and additional beneficiaries of emergency subsidy under Section 4f(3) of Bayanihan Act 2.

Each person can receive P1,000 while each family can get up to P4,000.

The national government distributed the cash aid for families in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces under the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus affected by the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

Local chief executives were given the option to give the assistance in cash or in kind.

On April 4, Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Domagoso" Moreno said the city government has decided to give financial assistance in cash because the city already has a food subsidy program.

“Ako, ang choice ko, cash (ang) bibigay sa tao (My choice is cash that will be given to the people),” he said.

The city government has yet to announce when the distribution will be of the cash assistance but said that it will be done as soon as possible.
