Lawmakers mourn death of MB's editor-in-chief Jun Icban

Senate and House lawmakers on Tuesday, April 6 paid tribute to Manila Bulletin’s editor-in-chief Crispulo “Jun” Icban, Jr. who passed away on Monday, April 5.

Senator Richard Gordon said Icban’s death is a "very irreparable loss to the media industry.”

“So very sad that my very dear friend Jun Icban of the Bulletin has passed on. He was a journalist for all seasons. His death is a very irreparable loss to the industry,” Gordon said on his Twitter post.

“He was soft-spoken and totally respected for his kindness and took his job very professionally,” he further said.

According to Gordon, he has known Icban, a former Press Secretary during President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s administration, for the last 50 years.

“I am sure that we will all feel the deep void from his loss. We condole with the family of Jun Icban and the Bulletin folks. We pray for the repose of his soul and that may he rest in peace,” he said.

Senators Nancy Binay and Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara also expressed their condolences to Icban’s family.

“Our deepest condolences to the family of former press secretary and Manila Bulletin Editor-in-Chief Crispulo Icban, Jr. Paalam (Farewell), Sir Jun, and may you rest in peace,” Binay said also on Twitter.

Former senator and now Deputy House Speaker Representative Loren Legarda also paid tribute to Icban.

“My heartfelt condolences on the passing of Jun Icban. He was a reporter of my Lolo Pepe, Jose P. Bautista, who was then EIC of pre-martial law, #TheManilaTimes,” said Legarda, the lone district representative of Antique province.

Former senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito also commemorated his times with the veteran newsmaker.

“RIP Jun Icban. Used to chat with him at the weekly lunch at Myther & Friends in Malate. He is a very nice person,” Ejercito also tweeted.
