CEBU CITY – Some 50 medical workers from Cebu will reinforce the government’s COVID-19 response in Metro Manila.
A send-off ceremony will be held Wednesday for the 11 doctors, 35 nurses, and four medical technologists from Cebu, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, spokesperson of the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH Region 7), said in a press briefing Tuesday.
The team will depart at 3 p.m. or a few hours after the send-off ceremony that will be attended by key local officials.
The healthcare workers set to leave for Manila are from Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Cebu City Health Department.
Loreche said the DOH Region 7 has been hiring medical workers who will be sent to the National Capital Region (NCR) that has been experiencing a steady rise of COVID-18 cases.
She said more medical workers will be sent to Manila which is need of at least 200 additional nurses.
Loreche said the reinforcement medical team from Cebu will stay in Manila for a month with the DOH Region 7 shouldering their salaries.
Loreche assured that despite the sending of a medical team to NCR, Cebu and the entire Central Visayas will still have enough personnel for its own fight against the pandemic.
