33-day spiritual preparations for national consecration to St. Joseph begin


The 33-day spiritual preparations for the National Day of Consecration to St. Joseph had begun and will feature daily reflections to deepen the faithful’s understanding and faith to St. Joseph.

Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas said the 33-day spiritual preparation for the National Day of Consecration to St. Joseph aims “to highlight the example of St. Joseph as a model husband to Mary and as a father to Jesus.”

Rouquel Ponte, Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas national president, urged the faithful to help spread devotion to St. Joseph.

“As we observe the 33-day spiritual preparations, may the Lord bless us with the grace to help spread devotion to St. Joseph. May he also serve as an example to all husbands,” Ponte said.

Manila Archdiocese Apostolic Administrator and Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on the Laity chairman Bishop Broderick S. Pabillo led the reflection for the recent launching of the 33-day spiritual preparations for the national consecration to St. Joseph.

The National Day of Consecration to Saint Joseph will be held on May 1, to coincide with the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. It will take place at the National Shrine of Saint Joseph in Mandaue City, Cebu. Also on May 1, the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on the Laity will launch the Men of Saint Joseph who will oversee the activities for the year-long celebration.

Pope Francis’ Apostolic Letter “Patris Corde” declared the period Dec. 8, 2020 to Dec. 8, 2021 as the Year of St. Joseph in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as patron of the Catholic Church.
