IG extends EG's curse, pulls off reverse sweep to bag Singapore Major title

Invictus Gaming shattered all the odds as it pulled off a stunning 3-2 reverse sweep against Filipino midlaner Abed "Abed" Yusop and Evil Geniuses to seize the ONE Esports Singapore Major championship on Sunday night, April 4. 

Spitfire midlaner Zhou "Emo" Yi and TI veteran position-4 support Hu "Kaka" Liangzhi powered iG's nearly improbable comeback from two games down early in the best-of-five grand finals. 

It was a sweet revenge for iG, which took down fellow Chinese team PSG.LGD, 2-1, in the lower bracket finals before getting vengeance for its 2-0 loss to EG in the upper bracket finals. 

IG bagged the $200,000 (almost P10 million champion's prize) on top of 500 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) points as it won its first big international LAN tournament since the Dota 2 Asia Championships held exactly four years ago in Shanghai, China. 

The Chinese TI2 winning organization also extended the championship curse of its American TI5 counterpart as EG failed to get its first Dota 2 Major title. 

Abed, who played Storm Spirit in all five games, and most notably carry Artour "Arteezy" Babaev fell short of capturing their first Major trophy as well.

EG settled for $100,000 (almost P5 million) and 450 DPC points after its flawless run to the grand finals including a 2-0 sweep of Fnatic in the playoffs first round only to lose in the end. 

Abed's Storm Spirit gave EG a head start as he racked up nine kills and 10 assists without deaths to spark a 27-12 Game 1 romp in 31 minutes. 

Game 2 was even more lopsided for the side of the North American kings, with Arteezy's Bloodseeker setting the pace for 35-8 demolition of the Chinese side in just 28 minutes. 

But iG struck back in the next two games to force a winner-take-all battle as Emo typed a question mark--widely seen as a form of trash talk in esports--while securing the victory in Game 3.

Emo spiced up the grand finals a bit more as before the action in Game 5 started, he said via all-chat: "Let's see who is the real evil genius."

Emo's Void Spirit and Kaka's Lion then ignited iG's relentless aggression while Singaporean offlaner Daryl "iceiceice" Koh Pei Xiang miserably missed crucial Black Holes with his Enigma, resulting in a 37-23 rout in 42 minutes in the title-clinching game.

A five-man sweep of EG in the 39th minute behind Jin "flyfly" Zhiyi's Spectre enabled iG to go straight for the throne and force the GG call.
