Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the wounded rebel was abandoned by his companions after a brief chase following an encounter in Barangay Bagbinlod in Sta. Catalina town.

He said SAF commandos were sent in the area after they monitored the presence of communist rebels on Friday morning.

A gun battle erupted when SAF commandos were able to locate the position of the rebels. The rebels then ran away.

“As the troops gave chase to the fleeing terrorists, they found a wounded red fighter with lacerated wound in the head, fractured right arm and graze wound in the back,” said Sinas.

He said SAF medics applied first aid treatment to the wounded communist rebel and prepared him for medical evacuation.

Police security forces recovered from the scene one shot gun; one Colt cal. 45 pistol; one hand grenade; two rifle grenades; magazine assemblies with live ammunition; and personal belongings.
