Talibon prelate announces gradual abolition of arancel system in his diocese
Another diocese will abolish the arancel system or the system of charging fixed rates for sacraments.
Talibon Bishop Patrick Daniel Y. Parcon announced the gradual abolition of the arancel in his diocese starting May 1, 2021.

"I, after having listened to and consulted the People of God, do hereby decree that there will no longer be fixed amount for the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, wedding (regular schedule) and Holy Mass (funeral, wake, fiesta masses and Pontifical Masses) in the Diocese of Talibon; the Arancel System is hereby gradually abolished," he said in a decree.
However, Parcon said, voluntary offerings that are freely and sincerely given are most appreciated.
He said in lieu of the arancel system, each parish must implement a Parish Support System by envelope offerings which is donation in nature and no fixed amount.
"Like any normal family, every member of the diocese, parish and basic ecclesial community (BEC) has the duty to support the Church in the fulfillment of Her mission," said Parcon.
"Both the rich and the poor are called to contribute, heeding the call to be a 'Church where no one is so poor as to have nothing to give, and no one is so rich as to have nothing to receive,'" he added.
The decree was issued on March, 29, 2021, on the occasion of the celebration of the Chrism Mass and the annual Renewal of Priestly Promises in the Diocese of Talibon.
On March 25, Archdiocese of Manila Apostolic Administrator Bishop Broderick Pabillo issued a decree abolishing the arancel for baptism, confirmation and Mass intentions starting April 14.

The Church this year marks the 30th anniversary of the 2nd Plenary Council of the Philippines, which mandated the gradual abolition of the arancel system.
In January, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines also renewed this commitment in line with the 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines celebration.
