According to a statement posted on the UK government’s website, Laure Beaufils has been appointed to the position and she will assume in August of this year.

Beaufils is currently deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa of the UK Department for International Development.

“Ms Laure Beaufils has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines and Her Majesty’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Palau in succession to Mr. Daniel Pruce,” said the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

In a Twitter post on Thursday, April 1, Pruce congratulated the UK’s new top diplomat to Manila.

“Many congratulations to @LaureBeaufils who will be succeeding me in this wonderful job in August,” he told his successor.

The incoming female ambassador said she was “delighted” with her new assignment.

“It will be an honor to build on the work of @DanielPruce and his talented team to further strengthen our important ties and friendships,” Beaufils tweeted.

The UK is one of the biggest donors to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) COVAX facility that will secure over one billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines for about 92 developing countries this year.

The Philippines is among the countries which the Global Vaccine Alliance (GAVI) identified as the first recipients of the vaccine, mostly developed by British drugmaker AstraZeneca.
