Missing Guimaras fisherman rescued after staying in fish pen for one day
A local fisherman survived the harsh condition of the sea after falling off when big waves slammed on his boat off the waters of Bacolod City.
Thanks to a large fish pen off the waters of San Lorenzo, Guimaras where he sought refuge after hours of swimming. He was rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard on Tuesday, March 30.
In a statement, the PCG said the rescued fisherman, Rudy June Patriarca, had ventured at the vicinity waters off Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City to gather mussels at around 5:00 a.m. on Monday, March 29.
The Coast Guard said while on his way home at around 12:00 p.m., the 32-year-old fisherman encountered strong winds and big waves, causing him to fall off his boat.
Fortunately, Patriarca was able to swim towards a fish pen situated in the shoreline of Barangay Mchavez, San Lorenzo, Guimaras where he waited for rescue.
Upon receiving the report, PCG Station Guimaras immediately deployed a rescue team to assist the Patriarca on Tuesday, March 30.
“Patriarca was declared in good physical condition by the representative of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) who checked his vital signs upon arrival at the nearest shoreline,” the Coast Guard added.
