The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday recorded a staggering 246 new COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases and 257 recoveries among Filipinos abroad.
This huge spike brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases involving overseas Filipinos to 16,394. One new fatality was also reported in the latest DFA bulletin.
Of the total confirmed cases, 10,049 have already recovered since the outbreak began in February last year while 5,297 are undergoing treatment, and 1,049 died due to COVID19 complications.
The Middle East and Africa continue to register as the region with the most numbers in all categories, namely confirmed cases (9,078); recoveries (4,963); undergoing treatment (3,440), and deaths (675).
At the Home Office, at least 88 DFA personnel have tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the Department to operate under a “reduced workforce” mode.
