Sara orders closure of beaches, inland resorts April 1-4

DAVAO CITY (PNA) – As a containment measure against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Mayor Sara Z. Duterte has ordered the closure of beaches, beach resorts, and inland water resorts in the city from April 1-4.

In a radio interview Monday, Mayor Sara cited incidents involving beachgoers violating the general community quarantine (GCQ), which even led to the drowning of several minors.

“We do not forbid them to go swimming; we are just asking them to do it some other time. Because for the long weekend, there will be a lot of people in the resorts, and it has a big chance for transmission of COVID if there is a mass gathering,” Duterte explained.

In an executive order, Duterte also ordered the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) to seek assistance from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), Task Force Davao (TFD), Philippine Navy (PN), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and other units of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to implement the directive.

“This Holy Week, I suggest that you stay in your home and not on the beach resorts. It might be the reason you can get infected with the virus,” Mayor Sara said.
