Gov't urged: Prioritize construction workers in COVID-19 vaccinations, too
A lawmaker representing construction workers on Tuesday, March 30, appealed to the government to include the said laborers in its vaccine priority list.
Construction Workers Solidarity (CWS) Party-List Representative Romeo Momo Sr. said that construction workers must also be considered as economic frontliners since they play an important role in propelling the country's economy amid the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

"Our highly dedicated and hard working fellow Filipino construction men and women must also be considered as among our frontliners, although admittedly they are not directly combating the spread of the dreaded virus, nor taking care of those who are infected by the disease," Momo said in his statement.
"Nevertheless, let me please point out that they are in the main front of our efforts in battling the economic devastation brought about by the pandemic, as they served as the backbone of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's 'Build, Build, Build' progam and other infrastructure-related activities," he added.
Construction activities and the rollout of various infrastructure projects must not be hampered, Momo said.
Amid the reimposition of the stricter Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite and Bulacan, "essential and priority" construction projects, whether public or private, have been allowed to continue at a full on-site capacity in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
At present, health frontliners are prioritized in the government's vaccination program, to be followed by senior citizens, persons with comorbities, frontline personnel in essential sectors, and then the indigent population.
Essential workers are eighth in the priority list, and will receive vaccine jabs after teachers, social workers, and other government workers.
