Even the training of professional athletes in Metro Manila and nearby provinces are halted this week due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine brought by the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) made the announcement Monday, March 29, at the start of the ECQ implementation on Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal.

“The conduct of health-enhancing activities and professional sports training shall remain limited to solo or individual activities conducted indoors or anywhere within the individual’s private property beginning March 29 to April 4,” the advisory read.

Among those affected are the current training of Premier Volleyball League teams in Taguig, San Juan City, Manila and Quezon City as they gear up for the upcoming Open Conference in May.

Even national athletes training in affected areas also had to stop training to comply with the Inter-Agency Task Force guidelines following the announcement of the Philippine Sports Commission Sunday, March 28.

Many were inside the training bubble at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.

Trainings for both national team and professional squads are expected to resume on April 5 once the ECQ is lifted.
