Olsim's win lands in ONE's Top 5 MMA submissions

Jenelyn Olsim on ground-and-pound action against Maira Mazar (ONE Championship)

Team Lakay's Jenelyn Olsim introduced herself in the Circle on a high note after submitting No. 5 strawweight contender Maira Mazar of Brazil in ONE: Fists of Fury III last March 19.

Olsim's win made it to ONE Championship's Top 5 mixed martial arts submission for the first quarter of 2021.

"Olsim’s striking was her biggest weapon for much of the match, but her route to victory came with a slick power guillotine submission," wrote Jay Furness of ONE Championship.

The 23-year-old Team Lakay stalwart did not disappoint as she scored a third-round submission victory over Mazar to improve at 4-2 MMA record. The Brazilian veteran of Evolve MMA, for her part, fell to a 7-4 card.

Olsim, a muay thai specialist, showed all-around fighting skills in the Circle as she swiftly caught Mazar off guard en route to a tight guillotine choke from standing position.

The Igorot warrior was quick to trip Mazar using her leg and added additional pressure on her body weight down the canvas, which forced referee Olivier Coste to halt the match at the 41-second mark of the last round.

The 2019 Southeast Asian Games silver medalist also displayed improved striking prowess and landed a solid right hook in the opening frame and a huge front kick in the second round for two knockdowns.

Meanwhile, completing the Top 5 list are Shinya Aoki's win over James Nakashima, Gadzhimurad Abdulaev's victory against Zebaztian Kadestam, Victoria Lee's remarkable debut against Sunisa Srisen, and Ryuto Sawada's rear-naked choke on Robin Catalan.
