Who is Cardinal Jose F. Advincula, 33rd Archbishop of Manila?

After more than a year, Pope Francis on Thursday, March 25, finally apppointed a new Archbishop of Manila in the person of Cardinal Jose F. Advincula of Capiz.

But who is Cardinal Advincula, the 33rd Archbishop of Manila?

Here are some information about the Archbishop-elect from the Archdiocese of Manila.

Born on March 30, 1952, in Dumalag, Capiz, Cardinal Advincula was ordained priest on April 14, 1976. 

He completed his studies in Theology and Canon Law at the University of Santo Tomas.

The UST-Central Seminary said Advincula, who received his seminary training in Theology from 1973 to 1976, is the first Cardinal and Archbishop of Manila to have been produced by the Central Seminary.

On July 25, 2000, he was appointed bishop, and was consecrated on Sept. 8, 2001.

He was appointed Archbishop of Capiz on Nov. 9, 2011 after the retirement of Archbishop Onesimo Gordoncillo.

On Oct. 25, 2020, Pope Francis announced the appointment of Archbishop Advincula as among the new Cardinals.

He was elevated at a consistory on Nov. 28, 2020.

Before his appointment as Cardinal, he has been serving the Archdiocese of Capiz since 2012.
