True to its word, the Philippine Airlines (PAL) has announced the cancellation of more international flights–75 this time–in a bid to comply with the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19’s Filipino passenger arrival cap of 1,500 per day.

The flag-carrier had earlier cancelled 45 flights between March 19 to March 23 for the same reason.

The NTF has imposed a 1,500-cap on Filipino passenger arrivals as a way to prevent the entry of more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) variants in the country. The cap took effect 8 a.m. of March 18 and will last up to 8 a.m. of April 19.

“Philippine Airlines will be announcing additional flight cancellations for the remainder of the stated period once the details are confirmed,” Villaluna said, repeating a line from PAL’s previous advisory.

There is a current surge in new COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, particularly in Metro Manila, that has been described by authorities as “alarming”.
