The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has transferred more than 50 examiners to Quezon City in order to make them more objective in collecting tax deficiencies from unacquainted taxpayers.
These examiners are considered frontliners of the bureau as they directly handle the investigation and decide how much deficiency taxes an individual should pay.
Insiders have said that familiarization between examiners and taxpayers often led to under-the-table assessment of tax liabilities, which give rise to the pernicious "suki-suki (favorite client) racket in the fixing of tax debts.
The language of the Tax Code recognizes this problem and calls for the periodic reshuffle of frontliners to avoid them from being too chummy with taxpayers and assess the tax liabilities at arm's length.
Sources said more fronliners in Metro Manila and elsewhere are expected to be reshuffled soon.
BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay issued a series of travel assignment orders based on the recommendation of Quezon City Revenue Regional Director Alvin Galanza.
They were rotated from the four revenue districts within the region, namely; Cubao, Novaliches,. North QC and South QC.
