Man arrested for boy's death in Isabela shooting incident


CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela -- A 60-year-old man was arrested for killing a nine-year-old boy during a shooting incident in Purok 4, Barangay Mangcuram here Sunday.

Case officer Police Staff Sgt. Carlos Sicam said that the suspect, Jose Baquiran, of Purok 4, Barangay Mangcuram, arrived drunk at the  house of the victim, Robin Carl Londonio, armed with an M16 rifle looking for the father of the boy at about 8 p.m.

He called out Robin's father and opened fire at their house, hitting the victim who was then busy reading his module.   

The boy sustained bullet wounds in the abdomen and was rushed by neighbors to the hospital where he was declared dead.

The suspect who was  drunk was allegedly irked at the victim's father after he reported to the barangay that Baquiran's animals had been eating their ornamental plants.

“Sumama ang loob ng suspect nang malaman na ang tatay ng bata ang nagsumbong sa barangay na ang mga alaga nitong (suspect) hayop ang nag ubos ng mga halaman nila, “ police said.

However, the suspect said that he got irked at the family of victim when the father reported him stealing goats in the area.

The suspect fled but was nabbed in a follow-up operation.
