San Juan Mayor Francisco Zamora assured the public that hospitals in the city can still accommodate COVID-19 patients amid the rising number of cases in Metro Manila.
In the city's third round of vaccination of health workers on Tuesday, Zamora said the city's hospitals and quarantine facilities have yet to reach full capacity.
“As of now, SJMC (San Juan Medical Center) is at 50% capacity, Kalinga Center is at 85% capacity, and San Juan National High School is at 65% capacity. Hindi pa kami kinakapos (We're not yet running out of space), but we are already preparing and we are about to open an additional quarantine facility in partnership with DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways)," Zamora said.
"We will be using container vans with 26 units, each with their own air-condition, toilet, and bath,” he added.
Zamora said the additional quarantine facilities will have their own X-Ray and will be manned by staff from the city health office.
The mayor meanwhile appealed to his constituents to follow minimum health safety guidelines to curb the spread of the virus.
“I am asking every San Juaneño to not be complacent even if the vaccine is already here. We are seeing an unprecedented rise in cases with new variants so we should continue to work together and follow minimum public health standards so we can manage our cases,” Zamora said.
