2 workers die in Banaue landslide

BANAUE, Ifugao – Two workers died when a landslide buried their house Monday morning, March 22 at Sitio Talop, Kinakin, Banaue, Ifugao.

The remains of two workers were retrieved from what was once a house which was decimated by a landslide that happened Monday morning, March 22 in Banaue, Ifugao. (Zaldy Comanda)

Maj. Michael Dangilan, chief of police of the municipality, said the victims, Emiliano H. Lupais and Ernesto Cirais, were sleeping when the landslide occurred at Sitio Talop, Kinakin, Banaue, Ifugao.

The incident was reported to the Banaue Municipal Police Station at about at 1:45 a.m.

Residents immediately conducted a search-and-rescue operation.

They retrieved the bodies of the victims at 2:15 a.m.

“Panay ang ulan dito noong mga nakaraang araw kaya maaring bumigay ‘yong lupa at alam naman natin ang Banaue ay isang landslide prone area,” Dangilan said.
