ILOILO CITY – There is no lockdown and inbound travel is still allowed even as COVID-19 cases have increased here and in the province of Iloilo.
“There is no enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Iloilo City,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas. The Iloilo provincial government said that there is no ECQ in Iloilo which is composed of 42 towns and a component city.
Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. had earlier said that residents should still practice their routine as if it there was still ECQ.
However, residents misunderstood his statement and thought an ECQ is being implemented. They were only being asked to observe health protocols under an ECQ for their safety.
As of March 21, the Department of Health Region 6 (DOH Western Visayas) recorded 546 and 347 active cases in Iloilo and
this city.
More than 100 COVID-19 cases were recorded from a call center company based here. Contact tracing is ongoing for call center agents who live in other towns of Iloilo.
Inbound travel to Iloilo is still allowed despite the earlier request of Treñas and Defensor to halt inbound flights and sea trips, especially from Metro Manila where there is a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, Treñas has issued a new order limiting social gatherings in Iloilo City to 50 percent of a venue’s capacity.
