Iligan Mandulog bridge finally opens today

ILIGAN CITY – A major bridge whose construction was mothballed because of right-of-way issues the last five years is finally open.

The Mandulog Bridge 1 project was initiated by the national government after the old Hinaplanon bridge collapsed during the onslaught of Tropical Storm Sendong in December 17, 2011.
 
DPWH-10 Project Engineer Rasmia Ma-amor said the final agreement between DPWH, the contractor, the local PNP, and the last three affected families proved crucial to the completion of this project.
 
"It has been a long and hard-fought battle to implement this bridge project but finally we made it to the finish line”, Ma-amor stated. 
 
The opening of this bridge is expected to significantly lessen the volume of traffic within the city center of Iligan.
 
Motorists from Marawi City, Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte can use Mandulog Bridge 1 and the C3 road network to bypass the city center of Iligan to avoid heavy traffic.
 
“With the opening of this bridge we expect to see more economic activities here in Iligan and ultimately this will result to a more progressive city”, said DPWH- Lanao del Norte 2nd District Engineering office District Engineer Alykhan Ali. 
 
District Engineer Ali predicted that with more and more motorists using the C-3 road, areas along this road network will soon see new businesses spring up bringing employment opportunities and development to Iligan, he said.
