Duterte tells PNP: Simplify processing of benefits for dependents of deceased cops
President Duterte ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to stop requiring dependents of deceased cops, especially their widows, to go to Camp Crame to process the benefits.

In his weekly public address on Monday evening, President Duterte said the PNP should not make the process difficult for the dependents, especially if their deceased relative died while on duty.
He also asked them to show compassion to the family of the deceased.
"Ewan ko (I don't know) if this is still being practiced now. If it is still the practice, I am ordering you to cut it now," he said.
"I am ordering you now to cut this goddamn. It takes about two months, three months... Maawa kayo sa mga biyuda... Dapat magmalasakit kayo sa kapwa niyo (Have pity on the widows. You should show compassion)," he added.
According to the President, the PNP has the resources to process the benefits at the regional level so dependents will not be forced to go to Manila and brave the heavy traffic while being clueless about their surroundings.
He pointed out that it was the job of station commanders to notify Camp Crame if a police officer died.
"There should be an office that will take care of this. Preparado na 'yan (This should be prepared already)," Duterte said.
"Cut the crap. Sa regional na lang nila i-follow-up. Kayo ang magpadala (Send it to the regional office and they will follow it up there). The PNP has the resources, there's almost a lot of people walking around, I don't know if they have work to do," he added.
The President said hearing about the struggles of dependents in claiming the benefits was a disgrace for the government.
"This is a disgrace to government, pati sa akin. Nakakahiya (including me. This is an embarrassment)," he said.
Duterte said the regional PNP should only summon the dependents once the benefit is ready to be claimed by them.
"I want to have that regionalized, processing. And do not call the heirs or the widow hanggang hindi na... yung araw na yun, pagbigay sa kanya, diretso na (until their claim is ready. Call them on that day so they can just go home once you give it to them)," he said.
