DSWD provides P8.6-M cash aid to 2,816 PUV drivers, distressed individuals in Leyte
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided P8.8-million financial assistance to public transportation drivers and to individuals in crisis situation in Leyte.

The DSWD Field Office VIII (Eastern Visayas) said 2,816 beneficiaries in Leyte received the cash aid.
"In two different locations, a total of 1,953 public transportation drivers each received financial assistance amounting to P 3,000 through the Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of DSWD,” it said in a statement posted on DSWD's Facebook page.
It said a total of 953 pedicab, tricycle, and habal-habal drivers in the municipality of Tanauan, Leyte received the cash assistance.
"Meanwhile, in Tacloban City, DSWD was able to provide aid to 1,000 public utility jeepney (PUJ), motorcab-for-hire (MCH), tricycle, and pedicab drivers,” it added.
The DSWD FO Eastern Visayas likewise reported that a total of 650 families, who are recipients of Yolanda housing projects identified by the National Housing Authority (NHA), also received cash assistance during a payout activity held at the Tacloban City Convention Center (Astrodome).
It also distributed medical aid to 268 intended beneficiaries who are indigent patients admitted at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC). Each beneficiary got P3,000 cash assistance.
The identified inpatients who received the aid have been admitted at the hospital for one week to one month already, the DSWD FO VIII said.
