The Baguio City Police Office reported a 42 percent drop in crime volume even after many residents and businesses have returned to their normal activities.
Police Col. Allen Rae Co, police chief here, said 61 crime incidents were recorded in January and February compared to the 106 reported during the same period in 2020.
BCPO records showed that there was a 53 percent drop in index crimes or 25 cases in the first two months of this year from 53 during the same period last year.
Police said there was also a 32 percent drop in non-index crimes or 36 cases in the first two months compared to the 53 last year.
Theft remains to be the most recorded crime incident followed by physical injuries.
Co attributed the decrease not just to the continuing police presence but also to the contribution of residents.
“The primary factor for the decrease is because of the pandemic and we can attribute to the performance and work of the police and the residents,” Co said.
Co said that with the contribution and cooperation of the people that continues until now, they hope to maintain a progressive and safe city that everyone will enjoy.
