Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina has declared full capacity of its allocated COVID-19 beds on Monday (March 22).

In an interview with DZMM Teleradyo, Dr. Imelda Mateo, medical director of Amang Rodriguez, said the hospital has 70 patients admitted for COVID-19 as of Sunday night (March 21).

There are also eight patients in the emergency room waiting to be admitted, and another 18 waiting for consultation, according to Mateo.

“Wala na kaming mapaglagyan sa COVID ward (We no longer have available beds in the COVID ward),” she said.

What the hospital is doing to address the “overflow” of patients is by transferring patients whose condition is already stable from the ward to their tent facility which is originally just for mild and asymptomatic healthcare workers.

Mateo said there are 28 healthcare workers in Amang Rodriguez who have been infected with COVID-19.

Amang Rodriguez is among the 17 Department of Health-run hospitals in the National Capital Region.

According to Mateo, almost all of DOH’s hospitals in NCR are already reaching the “critical stage.”

“Nakita namin po na mataas na po compared sa past months. In fact, i-co-compare ninyo po sa mga nagdaang buwan last year, parang mas mataas pa rin po ngayon (We saw that the numbers now are higher compared to the past months. In fact, if we are to compare it even to the past months last year, the numbers now are still higher),” she said.
